A story that could very well be the scenario of a movie. It is doubtful that even the most experienced researchers of the best online bookmakers could have foreseen what would happen at the race for the WBA bantamweight championship.

A late start and retirement

Hughes begun boxing at the age of 25. At first, she wasn’t interested for titles or any other sort of sporting engagements. She just wanted to maintain a fit body. However, her talent was obvious and she begun advancing rather quickly until she made it to the boxing team of the United Kingdom for the London Olympics. Unfortunately, she did not manage to compete at the tournament and she felt that her chances for a big career where diminished. So, she decided to retire.

She gave birth to 2 children and she worked as a part-time secretary for income. Despite the disappointment, she did not quite boxing altogether. However, she only did it to maintain her form. Until the time came for her to take the decision to return. And it only took her 5 fights to reach the top.

The road to the title

It all started at York Hall, England on December 03, 2021. At the first fight she defeated Klaudia Ferenczi. A victory that was to be followed by another one at the same ring against Bec Connolly on April 15, 2022, and two more wins in the United Kingdom. The fight that gained her the Commonwealth belt and the title of WBO International Super Bantamweight was held on July 30, 2022 with her opponent being Tysie Gallagher.

Two more fights were necessary for her to maintain what she had gained. On October 22, 2022 she defeated Flora Machela, before the last and greatest fight of her career. The opponent would be the way more experienced 38-year-old Jamie Mitchell. On November 26, 2022, at the Hilton Dubai, after 10 rounds, the officials declared Hughes the winner by decision. The belt for the WBO International Bantamweight champions was hers.

No one ever expected this outcome. And this is the beauty of the betting world. It’s the unexpected outcome that provides the excitement and the chances for great profits. It is the success of the athlete that no one takes as a favorite. In this case, Hughes wasn’t even considered as the underdog.
