Natalia Vadimovna Molchanova was a Russian freediver champion born on the 8th of May 1962 in Ufa, Bashkortostan, in the former Soviet Union. Until 2015, she was the former president of the Russian Free Dive Federation and held multiple records in a sport that is yet to feature on the maim lists offered by the establishments of online sports betting. However, bets for it may be found on individual offers on exchanges.

Records, records and more records

Described as possibly the greatest freediver the world has ever seen, Natalia held the world record for all three pool disciplines of diving: static apnea, dynamic and dynamic no fins. The first involves going face down in a pool and floating while holding breath for as long as possible. Her world record is 9 minutes 2 seconds. Dynamic diving is defined as swimming underwater on one breath through as many pool lengths as possible with a monofin. On this one, her record is 777.6 feet or 237 meters. The last discipline, dynamic no fins, the diver does the same as in dynamic while using a breaststroke. Molchanova’s record here is 597.1 feet or 182 meters.

She equally holds the record for free immersion, at 298.6 feet. Here, the diver pulls along a line to depth and back again to the surface. However, her name was written in bold among the freediving elite for the first time in 2004 during the blue hole in Dahab, Egypt. She swam an 82-foot-long underwater arch at a depth of over 170 feet and returned to the surface unscathed. The following year, she obtained the world freediving championship with a constant weight dive of about 282 feet.

The end of a most glorious career

At the time of her disappearance, Natalia had set 41 World Records, obtained 20 individual gold medals, and three team gold medals.  On that fateful day, Monday 3rd August 2025, Natalia went into the water for a private lesson dive accompanied by 3 fellow divers near Formentera, Spain. She descended to a depth of 40 meters (131 ft.) and never came up for air. Her fellow divers conducted a brief search to no avail before requesting help from the local Coast Guard. The search lasted two days, however, she was not found and was declared dead after 3 months, according to the Spanish Civil Code on missing persons through dangerous activities or by shipwreck.

She was more than a competitor under the Russian colors; she participated in the promotion of sports culture by writing articles and training handbooks. Molchanova was also a Ph.D. holder in Pedagogical Science and later became an associate professor at the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism.

Natalia Vadimovna Molchanova left behind two children; Oskhana and Alexey who is also a world class freediver and holder of many records. While the specific sport is still relatively unknown, punters can bet on diving through the Athletics’ option provided to those who register for an account at the best betting platform.
