For a sport where the first ever match was recorded as far back as 1859, it took quite a while to develop in popularity.
In fact, it goes well back in time
Some say Australian Rules Football is a derivative of Irish Gaelic Football. Others claim that it is a mere formalization of a game that existed in English private schools for amusement. It doesn’t matter what the origin is. What matters is that it has become global for its own reasons and its own attraction. And it is only a matter of time until we see exhibition matches in Olympic Games like for so many other sports. Sports that eventually got included in the schedule of the most prestigious athletic event.
At least the punters everywhere in the world will not have to wait that long.
